Somali journalists wear body armour and helmets on April 09, 2009 donated by Doha Center for Media Freedom to local journalist in Mogadishu Somalia. Attacks on journalists including dispeakable cases of killings, arrests, injuries, ill-treatment, abduction and death threats as well as systematic harassment and intimidation in main cities particularly Mogadishu, Kismayo, Baidoa, Bossasso, Galkayo and Hargeisa have served to under-cut the development and freedom of the media in the war-ravaged country, now struggling to re-install constitution-backed governance and order following almost two decades of war between clan-based militias. More than ten international and local journalists have been targeted and killed by alleged ‘unknown’ gunmen in the last two and a half years. AFP PHOTO/Mohamed DAHIR
